Second workshop on ‘Action Research in Higher Education’ successfully held

The second workshop organized by the National Action Research Conference on Higher Education (NARCHE) 2020 committee of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) was successfully held on the theme ‘Action Research in Higher Education’ on 17th September 2020 under the leadership and guidance of the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda. Having realized the importance of action research in higher education, Prof. Heenkenda proposed to create a platform for researchers conducting action research in higher education as such research enables the teachers in higher education not only to practice but also improve the situation under which the practice is done. The motivation to propose a conference on action research also came with 2020 curriculum revision of the Faculty where innovative teaching, learning and assessment techniques were incorporated into the curriculum.

The resource person of the workshop was Dr. Bimali Indrarathna of the Education Department, York University, United Kingdom. Participants highly commended the workshop which was conducted through interactive group-based activities as it enabled them to learn the basic principles of action research in a comprehensive manner. A series of workshops have been organized in order to enhance the knowledge of the researchers involving in action research as a part of the NARCHE 2020, which is scheduled to be held in June 2021.
